Know & Play Learning Hub

A journey from how a book we read this morning, and an experience linked to this later on in the day, led into a whole afternoon of child-led learning ✨🌱🧠

The important part of all of this is the part about being a guide and a facilitator. As a primary trained TEACHER, I am still learning this, and improving on this, myself. But times like this really make me see the true power of child-led learning and how trusting the child and the process is so important 🌟

Invitations to Play & Learn 🔵🔺🟨

At home, sometimes a way of getting new play started, or to introduce a new idea or topic… you simply just need to leave something out that will be in your child’s eyeline, and is engaging enough to make them be curious!👀 This can work with any age child - you’d just tailor the ‘invitation’ to be developmentally appropriate!

I like to do this for my little learners too when I’m working with them through @learnwithknowandplay 🌈 Having something set up and ready for them to wonder about, and get instantly stuck into, gets the session started off in a relaxed and happy way - whilst promoting communication, language and enquiry skills too!

No guesses needed as to what we’re focusing on today 🤪 I wonder where the learning will take us ✨

Invitations to Play & Learn 🔵🔺🟨

Another part of this year’s garden shared and already it’s given so many of you more inspiration for your own spaces 😍

We’re lucky to have the garden we have, but it isn’t huge! Instead, it’s all about thinking creatively on how we can make the space work and offer as many opportunities as possible 🏡✨

This space under the climbing frame was dead space really, and now, a little hub where self-expression and creativity can flow.

Adding the clipboards and baskets of resources also mean that the mark making, drawing or creating can be taken wherever outdoors. Moveable resources are very important - you never know when you need to make a safari spotting list from the top of the lookout tower, or a cafe menu inside the playhouse…!🤪

Both boys absolutely love being creative - mark making, writing, drawing, painting… so I wanted to create a space outside that they could do this + a home for resources that they can then transport around the garden wherever they need them!

This space will allow for:
✅ self expression
✅ creativity
✅ process > outcome
✅ bilateral coordination
✅ gross motor skills
✅ physical strength (needed for future writing!)
✅ fine motor skills
+ so much more!

I can’t wait to see how they, any anyone who comes to play, uses it 😍✨
