The First Five Years - Through the Forest & Seasons of Childhood - May 2026 (Presentation)

When nature IS the fine motor activity 🌻

Harvesting our sunflower seeds became such a wonderful way to finish off our sunflower exploration. Mr 4.5 worked hard to use his fingers or our @tts_resources tweezers to pull out all of the seeds, and then he counted them into envelopes ready to give to family, friends next Spring. Of course he kept some for himself too 🥰

Over our last week of August, we’ll be really reflecting on the turning of the year, as we look to begin our new chapter. It’s going to be an emotional one 🥺🥹

Babies begin their journey through the Forest of Childhood by first travelling along ‘The Acorn Pathway’ - that wondrous time between birth and six months where the world is completely new, and adjusting to life outside the womb solely depends on those feelings of safety and attachment to the primary caregiver ✨❤️

This week has been SUNFLOWER week for us 🌻
and it coincided wonderfully with Mr 4.5’s sunflower, that he grew from a seed back in the spring, coming to the end of its life.

Using cubes, we measured how tall it had grown (a great 71 cubes!) - a great way to naturally practise non-standard measure. He was thrilled that it had grown taller than him, but just needed to double check 😉

He knew that now it had finished its life & we’d cut it down, that we wouldn’t be able to enjoy it anymore. So instead, we painted a life size cut out of it to have in the play space 🌻 This is now making us smile every day, just as the real one has done over summer.

Time to harvest it next, ready to plant again in the spring!

Meet the Wondrous illustrator 🌳✨

When it came to bringing the world of The Wondrous Acre Wood to life visually, there was only ever one answer - a real illustrator, with real talent, creating something genuinely original. The stories celebrate creativity as one of the most important things we can nurture in childhood. The Yew Folk (who you’ll learn more about in the weeks to come) exist to show children that making things with skill, care and imagination still matters, even in a world that’s changing so drastically. The stories and linked story-led curriculum, over the seasons, help children to realise the extraordinary things that hands and hearts can make, with the hope to inspire them to do the same.

It seemed only write to find someone who also creates in that wondrous way. So, meet Rosie ❤️

The ‘Prepared Environment’ Series - The Entry Way 🏡

Last night I shared an honest post explaining that home was not feeling as organised and as ‘prepared’ as I like it to be. With ages and stages changing all the time, rooms trying to do too many jobs, plus just balancing full time parenting + business running… it’s felt like everywhere wasn’t serving us in the way I knew it could. I set myself the challenge of ‘Away by Autumn’ - working my way round the house, space by space, to get it to a point that felt calm, easy to maintain, and provided what we all needed.

The first space I tackled was The Entry Way. This is a narrow space that is always a bit of a bottleneck when we’re trying to get ready, so by moving a set of coat pegs to the left hand side, meant that each of the boys have their own area and now don’t get on top of each other. They have a basket for seasonal accessories, and a fleece each. Then their second peg has waterproof trousers on the lower peg, and coat on the top peg. Modelling where things go back means they know each item’s home.

The DIY built in cupboards act as storage for the out of season coats, accessories and anything else that goes ‘out the house’ such as the changing bag. They also have a low basket each (labelled with their names) which is where their bags go, so that these don’t get left on the floor!

Having a place for everything, means that it’s so much easier to put back everything in its place (even if not done immediately!!)

And no, it isn’t perfect. The radiator is scuffed, the skirting boards and the DIY cupboard’s paint hasn’t been finished yet… BUT the space IS functional, and right now that’s more important than the aesthetics. Over time we’ll get the ‘make it look nice’ bits done, just not right now 😂
