This week’s theme in our home is tomatoes & vegetables 🍅

This year we’ve grown many of our own vegetables, and experiencing the life cycles first hand has been one of Mr 4.5’s favourite things of the year. The practical life and understanding the world side of the learning that comes alongside planting and growing has been incredible and entirely worth it.

Our tomatoes in particular seem to have taken over the garden and no matter how many we harvest, we still have such an abundance of them! Initiated by Mr 1.5, turning them into potions with our new @tts_resources bottles has been a gorgeous start to a sunny Tuesday morning ☀️🌈🍅

The joy of open ended play ✨

We came home today to find a very wonderful delivery had arrived from @tts_resources ! A whole bunch of resources to test & try, ready for an exciting, upcoming project 🤩

These crates were an instant hit with both boys! A whole evening of play from four objects. They built, stacked, climbed, role played. They initiated challenges, tested their bodies and strength, collaborated and overcame frustrations, communicated and worked collaboratively.

It’s these incredible opportunities that come from unstructured, open ended play.

Mr 4.5 has already planned to create himself a gladiator/ninja warrior style course tomorrow incorporating these! I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Mornings in the Play Space 🌈✨☀️

It’s been a good while since I last shared the play space. Admittedly, it hasn’t been feeling ‘right’, & therefore I’ve been reluctant to share anything. I know so many of you over the years have taken so much inspiration from spaces I’ve created, so it didn’t feel right to then be sharing one that I myself wasn’t happy with.

It’s a juggle isn’t it? Multi ages. Multi use spaces. This room is our main, and only family living room. It’s also a corridor to the kitchen dining space. It’s the boys’ playroom - who are both at very different ages and stages. It’s also my at-home classroom, for children ranging from 2.5/3 to 7+!

Don’t get me wrong, I am incredible grateful to have this gorgeous room, and that it is enough to be able to do all we do within it. But, it definitely doesn’t come without its challenges!

Gradually I’ve been making it a lot more open ended, and have begun to move toys that are specifically Mr 4.5’s into his bedroom. With him off to school in September, I’ll be able to make it much better suited for Mr 1.5 who will be at home with me, and he knows that his toys are safe and sound whilst he isn’t around. It’ll also free up some cupboard space so that tutoring resources can be away most of the time, and brought out when I need them.

For the summer though, as I said, we’ve gone very open ended in here (with a few tray jobs and shelf work the other side of the room, which I can show in a following post). Mr 1.5 and Mr 4.5 can access the low, big cupboards, and they’re set up for them to do so. Anything higher is either for Mr 4.5 or myself! Perhaps a full tour is looming 😉

It’s not only our children who move through Seasons. We do too. Ourselves personally, and as a family.

Sometimes we have to go back to the roots when growing something we want to be strong, sturdy and wonderful.

Sometimes we have to be patient whilst things aren’t growing visibly, yet so much is happening below the surface.

Sometimes we have to give ourselves grace when the capacity we have left isn’t quite enough for ‘everything’ we’re wanting to do.

The Know & Play Space is evolving. So am I, my boys, my family. We all are, everyday. You are too. As are your children and your families.

We all grow and change at our own pace, just like an Oak Tree does. Just like a Forest does.

I have so much more to share, so thank you for being here with me. Let’s find the wonder in childhood together 🌳✨

For our next week of July, our lavender exploration has naturally led us into minibeats and the world of insects. 🐞

Whilst roaming the Lavender Fields, we saw and heard an incredible amount of teeny tiny creatures, all working hard, doing the jobs they needed to be doing.

Whilst at the new woodland space we’ve been working in, we’ve also seen some incredible insects. Many of them I’ve never seen before, like the Golden Ringed Dragonfly!💛
