Wondrous Enrichment Activities - Autumn: October Week 2
As Mr Oakes says, Autumn is well and truly here now. It's no longer on its way.
Here are four activities you could do to celebrate the season this week - linked to Chapter 6 of The Wondrous Acre Wood Tales. If you haven't read Chapter 1 though yet, you can download this for free HERE.
The full Wondrous Enrichment Curriculum will be coming next autumn, but for now, you can follow along with inspiration activities for each chapter within these blog posts, and over on @theknowandplayspace on Instagram.
Autumn Scavenger Hunt
Head out on an autumnal scavenger hunt. How many different signs of autumn can you find? You could use our printable Autumn Scavenger Hunt sheet - downloadable in this blog post HERE, or you could design your own with worded challenges like Mr Oakes did for the animals of the wood.
For example: Find something that was once green.
Find something where a spider has been busy.
Find something a fairy could sit comfortably on.
The idea of this activity is to not only have fun whilst spending time outdoors, but to get children to slow down and really think about and notice the seasonal changes that have happened, or are happening, around them.
Autumn Treasures Feely Box
Gather a collection of autumnal objects. These could be anything linked to the season, for example, nature finds and woodland animals. Cut a hole into a recyled cardboard box, and place the objects inside. Encourage your child to put their hand in, and without looking, purely through feeling, see if they can describe and work out what it is they're feeling, before then pulling it out to check.
For an added challenge, add two of each item into the box, and see if your child can find the matching pair purely through the sense of touch!
